The revitalisation of the ACS Australia Chapter began with an invitation by the American Chemical Society Global Engagement Team, to attend the Asia Pacific International Chapters Leadership Summit at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Australia was one of 11 APAC countries in attendance!
Australian representatives, Alina Bekmukhametova, Dr Stephen Clarke and Victor Olet met each other for the first time, having an opportunity to meet an connect with 60 ACS Chapter members from Bangladesh, China, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Kazakhstan, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and the USA 🌍
They learned about various support initiatives, which the ACS provides student and professional Chapters – which was very timely, as they were looking to re-establish the Australian ACS Professional Chapter. They were also inspired by the commitment from the leadership of the ACS Global Engagement Team – Christopher LaPrade, Christina I. McCoy, Ph.D. and Lana M. Nitti. Sergio Nanita, and Hooi-Ling LEE, PhD from the Committee on International Activities (IAC), Mandy Sum, Karen Yeo from the Publications team provided inspiring success stories of Chapters across the APAC region. Special thanks also to Andrew McKay and Heather Cole from CAS who connected Alina, Stephen and Victor with the ACS Global Engagement team! 🤝
