I had a wonderful experience attending CHEMECA this year both as a presenter and an exhibition sponsor. I was representing the newly founded ACS Australia Chapter.
CHEMECA has a wonderful balance of academia and industry representation. Through various presentations and chats, I better appreciated how industry needs can guide academic research to deliver impactful research outcomes, especially in the green energy transition.
The presence of professional institutions adds much value to the conference. I appreciate the support and collaboration we can have with Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), with special thanks to Natalie Angelone and Kate Toumbos for both their support over the years and for putting together a wonderful conference. Thanks also to Gary Bowman and The Royal Australian Chemical Institute for their presence and support. Looking forward to opportunities to work together across all our institutions.
Another highlight for me was the strong student presence. I was particularly amazed by the undergraduate students – they had a very obvious zeal for knowledge, and what better than getting them in a room with the top and brightest minds in chemical engineering/sciences across Australia - New Zealand. I had a field day introducing them to High Performance Computing and how supercomputing can be leveraged within chemical engineering and sciences!
Thank you to the American Chemical Society and to Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre for their support in attending this conference!
