I was enormously honoured, in my current role as Chair of the newly founded ACS Australia Chapter to be able to attend, the Organic24 Symposium (https://organic24.org ) along with Mr. Darren Peng, from Sydney University, who is Communication Officer of the ACS Australia Chapter. Both of us were also able to host an ACS Australia Chapter, Exhibition Booth at this event, which received keen interest from many delegates attending the Organic24 Symposium.
The Royal Australian Chemical Institute’s (RACI) Organic Chemistry Division, ably led by its Chair, Professor Uta Wille, hold an organic chemistry symposium in Australia, or in New Zealand, every two years. This year the RACI Organic Chemistry Division’s symposium, being called the Organic24 Symposium, was held at the National Wine Centre in Adelaide, South Australia (18-20 Nov. 2024).
Organic 24 was attended by a wonderful balance of delegates from academia, industry and Government, coming from around South Australia, Australia and from overseas. Delegates attending this Symposium all had a keen interest in organic chemistry, wanting to understand how organic chemistry might benefit the growth of science in Australia and benefit the wider community, both locally and overseas.
At this symposium, Australian scientists witnessed research presented by some extraordinary, world-renowned plenary and keynote speakers, coming from the USA, New Zealand, Germany, Singapore, the UK and, of course, Australia. In addition delegates were able to see the latest organic chemistry research, presented by a wide range of research students, and professional scientists, from Australia and from overseas.
A highlight was the strong student presence, from many students keen to present their latest research findings in a poster paper, at a well-attended poster session at this symposium.
Personally I was enormously excited, and honoured, to be invited by the Symposium Committee, to be able to prent an oral talk to symposium delegates. In this talk I spoke about ACS Australia Chapter activities in Australia. I also spoke about some exciting organic chemistry research, conducted in my role as Chief Scientist, for South Australian company Change Climate Pty. Ltd. (https://www.changeclimate.com.au/we-are ). Change Climate has developed an exciting internationally patented, glycerol based, bioepoxy resin, which is creating considerable interest around the world.
